HMV LONDON BUS MODEL
(IN ORIGINAL UNOPENED DISPLAY BOX)
FOR SALE
In 1984 HMV collaborated with Corgi in the production of a few models of the Red London Bus bearing the HMV logo (Corgi Model Number 483).
The excellent definitive book "The Collectors Guide to "His Master's Voice Nipper Souvenirs" by Ruth Edge & Leonard Petts devotes over a page (894) including two pictures describing the Bus and HMV's association with Corgi.
Extract from Book:-
Corgi's association with EMI dates from the mid 1980;s when they adapted their model of London Transport's 'Routemaster' bus to produce a special limited edition of the 'Shop Linker' for HMV Shops (Front & Side view of Bus shown in Book). The black band between the lower and upper windows runs right round the bus. It is printed on paper which is stuck onto the model. The special lettering is 'white out' with 'the HMV shop' outlined in HMV pink. The destination indicators are printed in black on a yellow background.
This model must have enjoyed a very limited circulation.
A respected model vehicles dealer told me it was made in 1984 and only 3,500 were produced. The story goes that in the mid-1980's the model manufacturer Corgi had a minimum production run of 10,000 units, evidently HMV (EMI), the owners of Harrods the London Department Store and possibly British Airways got together -- 3,500 models were produced advertising each Company.
The London Bus" would have been bought as a Souvenir of a visit to London. Basically a toy the vast majority would have been given to children, played with and thrown away. This might explain their extreme rarity today.
The UNOPENED display box
and Bus are both in excellent condition.
