THE TOP OF THE RANGE
HMV 192 UPRIGHT GRAND GRAMOPHONE IN OAK
Advert from the 1926 HMV Catalogue
The HMV 192 Gramophone was the top of the range model between September 1926 and November 1927 after which sales became virtually non-existent with the introduction of the HMV 193. The HMV 192 was still actually available until August 1929.
This is not just any floor standing Gramophone; it contains a "Saxophone Horn" which gives superb bass sound. The bottom of the Saxophone Horn is hidden by the panel that divides the record storage compartment. Volume is controlled by opening or partially closing the doors.
The gramophone contains the powerful Model 34 4-mainspring motor found on HMV's expensive high specification models. This motor can play approximately four 10" record sides without rewinding.
The automatic speed indicator has a moving arrow to indicate the speed of the 12" turntable.
The internal fittings are enameled gold plate.
The Original Retailers plate is on the motor deck; "Maxwell & Sons, Woking"
The Gramophone Comes complete with its original Lid Lock Key.
Dimensions 44" High, 21" Wide, 21" Deep
The Gramophone has been serviced by a specialist Gramophone Engineer who has removed and cleaned all 4 mainsprings ready for another 100 years of use.
This Gramophone is in very good original condition.
The Oak case with its cross-banding and ebony stringing has very few marks. At some time during its life as often happens, somebody has placed a plant pot on top of it, the resulting water mark ring mark has been almost polished but can still be seen to the left of the lid top in the below picture.
The Gold plate enameled fittings are in very good condition.
I have tried to describe the Gramophone accurately, but please take into account it is over 90 years old and provided family entertainment in the home hence there will be minor imperfections commensurate with age.
