This is probably the most prestigious standard production Gramophone that HMV produced. A miniature model of this type of Gramophone was presented to the Queen by HMV and now can now be seen in the “Queens Dolls House” at Windsor Castle.
In 1926 the Cost of the wind-up version (Model 201) of this Gramophone was £85, an additional whopping £25 was paid for this electric motor Model 211. Gramophones of this type were only for the very wealthy.
The cabinet is of best Satin Finish Mahogany with Serpentine bowed sides and front, all edges have solid mahogany carving, parts of the domed lid as with other parts of the Gramophone are of solid mahogany making it rather heavy. Dimensions:- Height 47¼", Width 22", Depth 24".
Gold plated fittings throughout. Under the turntable is inscribed 113, possibly the production number? Only the very wealthy could afford this Gramophone, hence the number produced would have been low. Self setting automatic brake. Automatic speed indicator. The electric light bulb comes on when the Gramophone lid is raised. 12" brown turntable with Gold plate rim. ". Two record storage compartments at sides of horn. Model 82E worm drive Electric motor working at 35 Volts.
Condition:- The bass tone from the Saxophone horn is excellent. The motor in common with all electric motors of this type has "brush noise" which can be heard when a record is NOT playing. The condition of the cabinet is good with some very light mahogany crazing due to heat on the top and right side. The gold plate is excellent with some tarnish under the end of the Tonearm where it is to lifted to play a record.
The Gramophone comes complete with its gold plated key.
